As principal consultant COWI is heading up the joint venture that will carry out the large-scale airport project from planning and design to supervision of the building works.
The larger of the two airports, Seeb International, is located outside Oman's capital, Muscat. The airport will have a capacity of 12 million passengers a year. In south Oman, the smaller Salalah International will have capacity for one million passengers. The airports are due for completion in 2011-2012.
Everything for a modern airport

The assignment comprises runways, approach roads, terminals, baggage-handling systems, control tower and all the other buildings and installations needed in a modern airport. The aim is to design state-of-the-art airports offering passengers a supreme degree of comfort and safety.



Both the new airports will be able to play host to the very latest aircraft in the world, including the world's largest passenger aircraft, the A380.
It is the largest airport-building project ever in Oman, with the design of 600,000 sqm buildings combined at the two airports. For COWI it is the largest international project in the company's history. 300 employees from Denmark, Oman, Sri Lanka and the rest of Asia are currently working at COWI-Larsen's project office in Muscat.

The development of Oman's largest airport, Seeb International Airport near the capital, Muscat, will result in one of the world's most ultra modern airports.

A brand new terminal building, 32 air bridges, two runways, a new cargo terminal, 6,000 parking spaces and much more - those are the main components in the development of Seeb International Airport.
Located near Oman's capital, Muscat, Seeb is the country's largest airport. With up to five million passengers a year, the existing terminal from 1973 has now reached its maximum capacity.
Large terminal building

The new terminal building will have a net floor area of 240,000 sqm and capacity for 12 million passengers a year.

The building is relatively large for an airport with that capacity because the intention is to provide a high standard of comfort in the terminal. In addition, Seeb is going to be a big transit airport, and extra space is needed to guide the many transit passengers through the terminal with ease.

Option to expand

Since traffic forecasts shows that the 12 million passenger mark will be reached relatively few years after its opening in 2010, the project has been prepared to allow the airport to expand to double its size up to 48 million passengers.
Other aspects of the project

The project includes some 70 buildings apart from the terminal, including a 90-metre high control tower and an Air Traffic Management Centre.
Furthermore, the existing runway at Seeb is to be upgraded and supplemented with a new runway. It will be able to take the world's largest passenger plane, the Airbus 380. The project also includes parking facilities and a motorway to the airport with three lanes in either direction, complete with a companion interchange feeding into existing motorways.
The entire project will be completed while the existing airport is still in use

*الاخت اشجان اذا كنتي مريتي من الطريق البحري خلف المطار ومقابل مجمع البهجة ستلاحظين اعمال الردم لارض المطار والتي يهدف منها الى حماية المدرج الجديد المخطط لانشاءه من الاودية والفيضانات المعروفة في تلك المنطقة.وهذه تعتبر اولى المراحل لتطوير مطار السيب (مسقط قريبا) الدولي. اما بالنسبة لاعمال البناء الفعلية فستتم طرح المناقصات خلال هذه السنة حسب تصريحات وزير الاقتصاد الوطني. والمعروف ان مشروع بهذا الحجم ياخذ وقت غير هين. والتأخير في انجازه عن الوقت المعلن عنه شي وارد مثل ما حدث في مطارات دول اخرى ( ماليزيا وتايلاند وقطر )

*عفوا هنادي فعلا قد انتظرنا هذا المشروع طويلا .على فكرة قاعة المسافرين الجديدة ستكون في موقع جديد بين مدرج نزول الطائرات الحالي و المدرج الجديد .
